hi all how would i set a login and password for my admin config index?

simplest way, if you are using cPanel, Plesk or some control panel like that, is to look for "password protect directories" or a similar option. They use .htaccess and .htpassword to set it up. You could use them to do it yourself, but it's pretty painless if you have a control panel option.
