I had to restore my database last night because the entire catalog got deleted.

None of the images were restored. I had to manually upload 2000 pictures.

Is this normal for oscommerce or is something wrong with my website?

Also, is there a quick way to restore the pictures?

Regards,

Al

The images themselves are not in your database. The links to them are but not the images themselves.

This is not normal but you should backup your site and your database whenever you make changes so you do not lose any info if you need to do a restore.

The Knowledge Base is a wonderful thing.

Do you have a problem? Have you checked out Common Problems?

There are many very useful osC Contributions

Are you having trouble with a installed contribution? Have you checked out the support thread found Here

BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP!!! You did backup, right??

If this is not normal, what do you think is happening. Also, what directory are my images in? How do I back up my site manually via FTP?

I'm sorry for all the question. I don't want to go through another night like last night.

there is a contribution which shows the layout of osCommerce. however using common sense, looking at the directory structure, there is a directory named images, thus one would presume images goes into the images directory.

Hi John,

That's what I thought. If I FTP this folder to my desktop and then restore the database, do I just FTP it back and the database links to these images again.

I'm trying to understand how this all works. I know I sound ingorant but I'm a beginner.

Thanks,

Al
