how can i move install from dir to domain root

I have oscommerce installed in a directory on my site (/catalog) . I want it to be installed directly into the root so that when some one comes to the domain they are immediatly into the shopping system.

Is it simply a matter of updates to the config files(s) and moving the directories ?

Yep :) Just be sure that all of your images from any custom designing are at "images/imagename.jpg" instead of /directory/images/imagename.jpg"

What did you have to do to accomplish this? to make your catalog the root directory?
