Product Attributes - Product Options

I'd really like to know if there are instructions somewhere for this feature. I've added the contribution to be able to insert a text box but I'm missing the boat somewhere here.

 

In Catalog/Product Attributes/Product Options, when I add a new option it allows me to choose:

 

Text - Radio - Checkbox - Textarea

 

So I add an option... give the option a value... how do I give the value a text box? Am I missing some of the code or something?

 

No matter which option I choose, when I add an option to a product and go to view it, it's a drop down box.

 

When I add an option and give it a value of nothing, it makes an EMPTY drop down box.

 

Also, what value goes in the length box? Is this the length of the characters allowed in this field?

 

I'm so confused! I thought this was going to be a breeze once we installed this contribution.
