sputnikinternet
I have about 150 people in my shop nosying around, but one person who has not created an account is not listed as GUEST, their name is just blank. Also, they have been online for 2 hours and keep adding things to their cart, total value now $6000!!! They are going round adding the same products periodically which seems like s strange pattern. Any ideas? Is it spiders, hackers, odd shoppers?

sputnikinternet
Cheers Vger (for your super quick response!!) I have turned spider sessions off now, but they are still online, can i just go into mysql and delete their row in whos_online - or should i be doing something else? A Edit: Oh! They've just disappeared - i'll keep my eyes peeled for a while. Cheers for your help!
sputnikinternet
THEY'RE BACK. Same IP address, although now they show as GUEST. Things are being added at about an item every 10 seconds, so it does seem automatic. More ideas? Can i delete their row from who's online in mysql? will that delete their session? ♥Vger
Check out their IP address wit internic.net, or arin.net etc. and find out who they are, and then add them to the spiders.txt file. Unless a spider is in that file they won't be stopped from generating sessions. The best way to do that for sure is to install a full ssl and then able 'Force Cookie Use'. If you have their ip address and know how to write a .htaccess line or two you can also use the .htaccess file to ban that ip address. I believe there is a Contribution which doesn't just list the major spiders, but which lists over a thousand of them. This will marginally slow your site down - but it may be worth it. Vger p.s. After 20-30 minutes (not sure which exactly) of inactivity sessions are cleared
sputnikinternet
Put up the large spiders.txt - but they're still in - shoulld it kick them out or just prevent them from starting a new session?
♥Vger
It should prevent them from starting a new one. If you want to terminate their activity right now then turn on 'Force Cookie Use'. Wait a few minutes, then turn it off again. Vger
Guest
you can often get a quick idea who they are by "ping -a <ipaddress" to do a reverse DNS lookup on the IP address. -jared
