lauretti
Basically, I would like to not process my customers credit card order until we have spoken to them first and confirmed a shipping price. Is there a simple way to set this up via the admin section!? Any help is appreciated in advance. Sincerely, Dave.
♥Vger
The answer, as far as I am aware, is "not easily". Basically, if you need to confirm individual shipping prices then you may as well have an online terminal to a credit/debit card processing provider, get everyone to phone you for your quote, and then take their payment over the phone. Because, if you give individual quotes on shipping for each person - how are you going to build that into the Shopping Cart. And if you're going to expect customers to phone you in order to be able to get a shipping quote before they can buy something from you - well, I just don't think it's gonna happen! The fewer obstacles you put between a potential sale and a sale that's realised the better. There is a standard module that will allow you to calculate shipping on the basis of weight. There may even be modules available (may have to pay for them) that will allow you to calculate cost based on your zip/postal code, and the customers zip/postal code. That's as good as you're going to get I think. Vger
lauretti
well basically I hear what you're saying but there must be a way no? we're looking for a basic, 'thank you for your purchase, we will contact you shortly to confirm your order' and that is when we would indicate the shipping charge. I know it seems useless to have osc for this type of transaction but we're mostly interested in the catalog functions then worrying about the final transaction being done through the web... any ideas are appreciated. Guest
Dave, Why do you need to confirm shipping over the phone? How do you calculate shipping? ed
lauretti
oops, i forgpt this is not my store but a clients. they want to personalize the transaction, they want to calculate it over the phone first so they can give deals and so forth... They basically want to be emailed (via osc) that someone is interested in buying what was in their basket and then call the customer, say hello and thank you and arrange a shipping method and price...then run the credit card only when the customer agrees to the shipping method and price... This must be do'able... : ) Thank you again for your responses. Dave.
lauretti
Again, so basically. User fills basket, user enters credit card info OR NOT (client can gather that info during phone conversation), user checks out, user gets a call from store owner and confirms shipping cost, total cost and/or obtains credit card info... Thank you.
Guest
Dave, I spent about 10 minutes looking through the contribs for anything that might be a basis. The closest I got was contribs that marked items as "Call for Pricing". You could start with that. You will want to change it so that the instead of "Call", the REAL price is displayed BUT $0.00 is passed to checkout. Make sure that $0 priced items can go through checkout without triggering payment or shipping modules. That way, the buyer sees the price but the payment and shipping modules don't kick in. You could then modify the Success page to say that owners will call to verify shipping method and final cost and get CC info OR You could use one of the Conditions contribs. These get injected before final confirmation requesting that the buyer read and agree to soem condition. You would modify the text and tell the buyer that shipping will be confirmed over the telephone: Agree/Disagree. I think using the Conditions contrib is a better choice then modding the success page. Most people will think it odd to have someone call to complete the transaction. Personally, I think they're making a mistake. I don't know them or their product, but if I went to a site, selected a product, and was told someone would call me, I'd go somewhere else. I go to physical stores when I want contact with the seller. I go to the Internet when I want to buy an item straight out, without contact. That's just my $.02. I'll call to finalize the payment after you read this :P ed
lauretti
Very well, I will run this by the client for sure. : ) Also, I will look into some of your suggestions and get back to you either way to let you know the outcome... P.S. The client has a pseudo cart setup previous to the osc installation where they would have to do just that. They may be a little worried about taking the leap. Again thanks and I'll post back to you. Thank you for your input. Dave.
