Slyn4ice Posted December 2, 2004 Posted December 2, 2004 Hello everybody. This is the first time i have tried to actually submit a contribution, so I hope I don't annoy too many people with mistakes. I have worked for about 8 months already and have made countless mods but most were too specific to fit anyone else's needs. The idea for this particular contribution came from the graduate realization that of the 50 major mods I made for OsCommerce - my bosses knew how to use only 4. So, this contribution is designed so that a web-designer, working on modifying OSCommerce for someone, can include easy instruction on how to operate the thing (which button to click where, etc.). I know there are many computer savvy people out there - but believe me, some, like my bosses, are not! And they need step by step instructions. Please, let me know what you think about this - useless, good idea, etc. I know my code is far from perfect - any modifications and corrections are welcome. You are free to contact me at any time at this email address: [slavi at dankov dot org] Here is the URL for the contribution: http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contri...ns,2686/page,17 Thanks to everyone! Svetoslav
Slyn4ice Posted December 7, 2004 Author Posted December 7, 2004 I guess it's not very smart to ask you to install the mod first to give me your opinions, so i've made the mod on a fresh installation of OSCommerce here: http://dankov.org/catalog/admin/help_admin...lected_box=help please, don't abuse it :) After you go to the above page (which is the admin page for the mod), click on the big HELP button on the top right of the page to see what the mod looks like. Thanks everyone, Svetoslav
♥bruyndoncx Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 this looks like an excellent initiative, now if we only had a way to automate the generation of the help topics and the population of the database from a core set of files ... (w00t) Just thinking out loud here ... Excellent, unique contribution  KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON I do not use the responsive bootstrap version since i coded my responsive version earlier, but i have bought every 28d of code package to support burts effort and keep this forum alive (albeit more like on life support). So if you are still here ? What are you waiting for ?! Find the most frequent unique errors to fix: grep "PHP" php_error_log.txt | sed "s/^.* PHP/PHP/g" |grep "line" |sort | uniq -c | sort -r > counterrors.txt
TCwho Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 (w00t) my feelings exactly....the potential is enormous... Drop_Shadow How Did You Hear About Us Email HTML Order Link ---- GMT -5:00
Slyn4ice Posted December 10, 2004 Author Posted December 10, 2004 Hey, thanks everyone for the review. Yeah, it would be a good idea to have a db template with help contents, anyone is welcome to try and write one. Since help is associated with filenames in the admin, anyone posting a new contrib can include instructions for using it. By the way, bruyndoncx, i took a look at your documentation initiative - great idea ... which started me thinking - if oscommerce came with developer's help, right there, in the admin section, that could have saved me a lot of trouble :) I am currently working on enabling HTML tags in the help files and grabbing the name of the page a help is associated with in a much better way. Thanks again guys! Slavi
John Doswell Posted December 10, 2004 Posted December 10, 2004 nice constribute, nice way of handeling things! i guess it would also turn out o good system for the catalog side :-) greetz john

I am currently working on enabling HTML tags in the help files and grabbing the name of the page a help is associated with in a much better way. Thanks again guys! Slavi <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Do you plan to enable HTML tags by using the wysiwyg editor, so that images can be included as well ?
