simple question-what measurement is weight entered

sorry if this is a totally obvious answer:

what measurement is weight entered as? Is the default in pounds?

 

would a value of 1.25 be "one and a quarter pounds", or is the .25 in ounces?

I had this problem as well, but I found you treat the weight measurement what you like, because when you enter it in you compare it against a shipping weight generally so if you entered 1.25 on the product and it was kilos then you postage price should also be in kilos, in which case you are comparing like with like.
