Guest
Hi guys, I'm new to oscommerce but from what i've seen the flexability is awesome. I have the store imbedded into my test site and all works well. I have it setup on my laptop which is running linux,apache,mysql,xwindows..etc. The site works great. I have to publish it friday. It is going on a windows box running IIS. I called the hosting company about the setup. They said there should be no problem setting up oscommerce on the site. They do support mysql and php. The only possible problem is they do not allow write and execute access on any directories. I belive this will only pose a problem during setup which they would relax the permissons for a 24 hr period. Have any of you tried this type of install. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a million for the help and great product!!!! Drew
♥Vger
This is just my opinion - ASP was written to run on Windows, and although it can be run on an Apache server it works best on Windows - PHP works best on Linux/Unix using Apache. Windows servers have so many security problems that in order to run php at all they have to restrict its functionality. Again - my advice - before you launch the site, find a Linux/Unix host - it'll save you a lot of grief in the long run. Vger
Guest
Drew, You may want to rethink the host. You need write privileges everytime you want to add a product to your site, everytime you need to tweak 1 line of code, everytime you install a new contribution. If you store sessions in /tmp (I prefer storing them in mySQL), you'll need to write everytime a customer comes to your site. Adding/modifying banners = write. Using Easy Populate = write. etc. I would find it a pain to have to ask for a temporary lifting of the restrictions everytime I made a change. ed
Guest
Are you sure that they don't allow write or execute on anything? That sounds awfully odd . . . -jared
Guest
Are you sure that they don't allow write or execute on anything? That sounds awfully odd . . . -jared <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes I agree its odd but it is a windows host. What do you expect. I managed to host the site on a server at my office apache/tomcat/mysql/php. It's setup and working. I used STS and integrated it directly into our website. It is very slick. I locked down the admin page with directives in httpd.conf and alls well. Thanks for your help... drew
