Guest
Hi, does anyone know if it is possible to set up UK postcode validation. for when customers enter addresses in their shipping/billing forexample... just to check that the format is correct. either L0L 0LL LL00L 00L L0 0LL L00 0LL LL0 0LL LL00 0LL If this has already been done it would be a great help. otherwise i think its gonna be a big job. any input appreciated Cheers Rob
walmslei
Not really postcode validation BUT you can speed up the order process for your customers by integrating the services of a company like 'postcode anywhere' (we use this for our oscommerce site). The customer enters their name and email and postcode, clicks find and the address is filled in automatically. It looks professional, speeds up the checkout (meaning less bailed orders) and helps minimise back-office mistakes or data-entry problems caused by customers typos. I have integrated this into the ordering of our store. Drop me a line and I'll sticky the site to you. It does have small costs, but trade this off against data accuracy and improved customer experience it is well worth the money!
radders
Hi Ian, I saw your note on the postcode data. What did you have to do to integrate their application? Did you use the Javascript version? Can you exclude the 'Where's my nearest?' option ? (I can do that already using postcode district data) Can you still capture addresses in the normal way for non-US/UK customers? Thanks David
radders
I'm giving this a try. It seems to work pretty well in testing. I've just edited create_account.php and inserted their two lines of javascript to put a button by the side of the postcode inviting customers from the USA / UK to click for their address to be filled in. I'm just using the simple javascript version. OK it took a little more than the 5 minutes they suggested to set it up - (recalls the book 'Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance'). So far i haven't paid them any money I want to see what sort of hash a real customer can make of it :-) Besides I'm not sure how many new customers we'll get in the next two weeks! What are your findings? Thanks
wider
Hi Ian! Sounds interesting. Would you mind to share your code for the Postcode Anywhere integration or give us an idea of your approach? Thanks heaps! German
mark27uk3
I have just signed up and installed the basic javascript popup and all works well apart from that it shows a secure/insecure warning because of the 'click to find' button. Should not be a problem to sort out. Also I use the PWA contrib and I am going to have to add an extra address field as well to make it look more professional. All in all if you follow the instructions on the postcode anywhere site once you have signed up it is very easy to do. The javascript that they generate for you with your license key in needs to be placed in <td> next to your postcode field in create_account.php. The first time you go to the create_account page the button will say 'click to setup' once this is done and you have filled out and matched all the required fields then the button changes to 'Click to Find' and your all done. If you need anymore assistance please shout but remember I am a newb to this as well and will help if I can. Mark Lifes a bitch, then you marry one, then you die! Jamez
They will do it for you if you send them the file. The only problem with their services is that you cant roll over credits and unless your store is super busy you are unlikely to use all of their credits you buy.
