XinXang
Hi, is it generally advisable to only have one oscommerce installation per database? If I would want to have multiple installations on the same database, but not use multistore, what would be the best way to go about doing this? Basically I want to re-attempt installation a few times as if i am installing stores for multiple clients ( so i don't want them to share an admin panel,) but i only have one database on my web-hosted server. ---------------------- if you say that it's unadvisable to attempt to do this, then I'll go to the effort of setting up a webserver to the net which runs from my home, then use my webhost only as a redirector to multiple databases at home. But i've never done this, so i wonder if this will only suck away my time and distract me from the business at hand which is getting handy at installing and configuring oscommerce. Suggestions? Guest
you never told me you were doing it that way. so no, dont use a single database for all the customers. they each need their own space and database, if you are going to have them as customers who you host. also it is not worth the money hosting at your home, what happens if your dsl/cable goes down, most hosting companies have a 98% uptime and offer refunds if it goes below. your system could fail, and who are you going to go to for support? bottom line, dont host on your own computer from home, give everyone their own space. Suggestions? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You are going to do what??? Host multiple sites on your home computer using one domain and database for different clients??? What are you thinking??? Please tell me that this is some kind of Joke!! If you cannot afford at least some kind of small resellers plan on with a decent hosting company then you need to rethink your plans if you are going to setup sites for clients for money. The Knowledge Base is a wonderful thing. Do you have a problem? Have you checked out Common Problems? There are many very useful osC Contributions Are you having trouble with a installed contribution? Have you checked out the support thread found Here BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP!!! You did backup, right?? How can I best do this?

Guest
no, you can do it on your own system, the same way i do it here, i have apache, mysq, php, perl installed and then i have probaboy about 250 web sites in my localhost directory, under different directories. this way i can go to http://localhost/domain and do the full testing, whether it be just about anything. for asp i have another operating system i run uncer connectix on a w2k3 server, can talk back and forth between all of them.
