Guest
i'm selling painting reproductions, and would like a global product attribute (size) assigned to all products...ie. size 1.25 X larger 1.5 X larger 2.0 X larger as it is now, i will have 3,000 products or so, and will be required to update this 4 x for each product.... example... http://www.arthousereproductions.com/catal...&products_id=30 also, is the maximum number of products I can add before there is performance hit? thanks, Brett
Guest
Brett, I've never heard of anyone complaining of a performance hit based on # of products. Usually it's the image sizes. There's a contrib called attribute sets that allows you to create an attribute set and easily apply it to multiple products. ed
Guest
Thanks Ed, sorry...am I missing something? when i look in the admin console, I don't see the attribute sets on the left pane. I have the latest download of oscommerce ms2, so not sure where to find this feature. the screenshot from this thread http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/index.php?sho...=attribute+sets , and what i see aren't the same. thanks. brett
Guest
Brett, You need to install the contribution. It is not part of the osCommerce baseline. ed

I tried installing the same contrib last night and had the hardest time working with the coding. Is there a better way? I am such a newbie to PHP and OSC I feel like an idiot! I still didn't get it to work btw. Help? bbclaus
♥Vger
You don't need to install anything extra to apply certain attributes to products you have entered into osCommerce. In your osCommerce control panel, under Catalog --> Product Attributes, add the sizes you want as Options. Unfortunately (if you have 3000 products) you then do have to scroll through the products and 'insert' the options. These options then appear on the page when someone goes to view the product. With regard to performance being affected, this should only be a problem if someone uses the Search feature, as it will take longer to run. Where you do have to be careful is in the size of sql database you are allowed to have on your site. I am assuming you are on a shared server, so there will be a limit on the sql database size.
