ChrisW123 Posted November 27, 2004 Posted November 27, 2004 Sometimes I think Google hates my website. I've been looking through my logs which show keywords and phrases that people apparently used to get to my website, so I've been going to Google to type them in to see which page my website appears on. Usually my result is 10 or more pages back so I'm surprised that users were patient enough to go through that many pages. But anyway playing more with Google, I figured I would type an exact phrase from one of my product descriptions and search for it to see where my ranking would be: "A black classic, the Model T Ford." (but without the quotes) Couldn't find my result anywhere (searched about 10 or more pages deep). So then I "forced" Google to show me the results I wanted by typing "A black classic the Model T Ford" (in quotes this time) and Google displayed my link on the first page and it was the only listing! Kind of interesting. Does anyone ever feel like sometimes Google is "spitefull" toward you when you are testing your website search results? :) Sometimes I think the search engine has some grudge against me and will only show my site when it's "forced" to (like when I used quotes). :D :D Hahahaa!
AfterDark Posted November 27, 2004 Posted November 27, 2004 Just tells me you need to work more on SEO :)
Guest Posted November 27, 2004 Posted November 27, 2004 The example does not suprise me at all. The words used in "A black classic the Model T Ford" seem all very common to me, no wonder you're not on top. But who would ever write the exact phrase "A black classic the Model T Ford"? Only someone who's testing I suppose, so that's unique for your site, no wonder you're on top then.
mpiscopo Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 Your page rank is 1 out of 10. You should work on getting some links and getting your page rank up. Also, do you have a SID killer installed? You should read through the forums and work on your SEO a bit more. And if all else fails, use Google AdWords for key words. It is a pay per click, but I have found it very useful in generating sales.

Do I still need "SID killer" also? I have 2.2MS2, and heard you don't need sid killer. Thanks for the other tips.
Guest Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 with 2.2 MS2, you should not need SID killer, just enable "prevent spider sessions". I have also heard "it doesn't work" enough times about SEF URLs to recommend turning them off. -jared
ChrisW123 Posted November 30, 2004 Author Posted November 30, 2004 with 2.2 MS2, you should not need SID killer, just enable "prevent spider sessions". Oops, yes, this is the option I meant. I have this enabled. I have also heard "it doesn't work" enough times about SEF URLs to recommend turning them off. Do you mean I should turn off SEF URLs? Currently I have this on as well.
