Guest Posted November 25, 2004 Posted November 25, 2004 Hi there! Just trying to figure out how products can have different prices and shipping based on a customers country - for example if we have a supplier in the US *only* for produxt X, that we can have product X show up at a different price to US customers. I looked through the list of contributions, but they all seemed to only adjust shipping. Ideally we'd like something that let us completely change prices, shipping rates, default currency and which products are visible based on the visitor selecting a country. Is there anything (even remotely) like this? Thanks!
Guest Posted November 25, 2004 Posted November 25, 2004 u r looking for a bit of custom work to get this done. why do you want different prices for different countries? will you charge less in one country than another country?
annab Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 silentz, I know what you mean. I've been looking for this too. So far, there was the contribution for multiple stores that would have solved this because they included a price schedule. See http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,1730 However, the development was pulled because it was considered a fork development by the OSC chief. The developer did mention that a new release (1.7) would be available soon. I'm waiting eagerly for that. Mibble, there are a multitude of reasons for this. One being that some products are prohibited from being sold in the US (or in other countries). For example, you can't ship shoes to Italy. Another reason could be that there is a need to factor in importing costs into pricing for different countries, esp if you are the middle man.
Guest Posted December 2, 2004 Posted December 2, 2004 We're looking at different prices in different countries because we have different suppliers that charge us different prices. Why not just use the cheapest one? Because they're in the US, and with shipping to where we are in Australia they come out w-a-y more expensive. So... ...we end up with different costs of providing the same product in different countries... with different shipping cost... different available products etc. I think I may have solved this myself though - I've been looking over the multi stores contribution and using that to set up different "shops" for each country with each using mainly the same code but with different payment & shipping modules and currencies. Has anyone tried this?
Guest Posted December 2, 2004 Posted December 2, 2004 Sorry annab! I wrote my reply before fully reading that you'd already said pretty much the same thing! D'oh! BTW What's a fork development for (semi) newbies like me? Is this like a contribution that is trying to develop the same functionality as something planned or something completely differrent?
