juss_me Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 Hello! First, let me say that my host installed oscommerce for me, and also a couple of contributions. He does all that, I do not get to see any help files or any such thing. I am not new to web building, but am totally new to oscommerce, and do not know php. My host has installed a template contribution for me, but I do not see where it is, or have any clue how to go about using it from this point. I asked my host, and here is his answer: "The template plug-in allows you to change the HTML of the whole store w/o having to go in and hack up the program files. I think it was in a 'template' directory which would be under the following (in your FTP path): /public_html/store/template (or some similar name)" So, I opened my ftp client, went to public_html, then store, but there is no "template" there, nor any thing even close to 'template" and even if there was, I have no idea what to do with it from inside my ftp program. Any help at all would be appreciated.
Guest Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 get rid of the host is the first thing i would do. second is download the application from the osCommerce web site. third customize it to your liking color wise first. fourth start adding contributions based upon what you need, not what you would like . .

I will go to the site, see what I find. I don't know which one he installed. I currently have the store in the color scheme I like, mostly, but am looking for a way to edit table width, table background colors, ets. I DID ask him for a template contribution, because I felt I needed it. Thanks for your comments.
Guest Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 perhaps posting a link to the site may shed some lite. however with templates, pretty much all bets are off on editing them the same way, unless they are certain contributions, so a generic question without seeing what you are trying to do, is at best what can be offered.
juss_me Posted November 22, 2004 Author Posted November 22, 2004 I am thinking that I am just in over my head here. I can do all the html by hand, without the template contribution, but there are other contributions I will need. My problem is, I don't see how to run or use a contribution.... any contribution .... after my host has installed it. There are things I will not be able to do by hand.
