Adding another drop-down in Customer Account?

I am looking to add another drop-down selection menu in a customer account when they create it. this menu will allow them to choose an option out of a list and whichever they choose will show up on the billing, shipping, etc. just like the other account profile options.

 

Something similar to this contribution:

Only with a drop-down menu instead of an blank input field.

 

Any ideas?

use the contribution 'how did you hear about us' as an example, as this does create a drop down in the account area. you will have to code it to your needs
