Guest Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 Hi all, Earlier this month I turned on "prevent spider sessions" to "true" in the sessions admin. Everything else set to "False", including "Force cookie usage". I noticed, as mentionned in a recent thread, an immediate sharp rise the number of views to cookie_usage.php. In this particular thread, it was said that this would be due to force cookies being turned on, but in my case it's not. I've also noticed more strange things that have seemed to happen since turning PSS on -- Occasionally I am made to open sessions, but my cookies should be on as I have IE security & privacy set to medium. Most of the time though it's ok, just random. Decrease in sales. More random weridness when creating accounts that I cannot reproduce,as much I try. I'm turning Prevent Spider Sessions to False again, I'm just worried it's affecting sales. Anyone with similar experiences?
♥Vger Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 If you earlier had 'Prevent Spider Sessions' set to 'false' and spiders visited you and logged sessions, and are now revisiting with those session ids then they will end up on the cookie-usage page. Similarly if people are coming to your site by following links in search engines that include session ids they will end up there. I had this problem, with 40-50 hits a day on that page just after switching over to Prevent Spider Sessions - but now they've all disappeared as spiders update their listings. I would leave Prevent Spider Sessions set to 'true' - it will work itself out soon. Vger
Guest Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 Ah, that explains the cookie-usage. Still stumped about the random weirdness. I think I will leave it off for a week or so, with the intention of turning it back on after that, but just to observe if there's a difference in sales and cookie madness. Cheers for that!
