The best place to start is the knowledge base. You should really read throught the whole thing ( it will be time well spent) but at least read the install instructions. Then if you have any specific problems you can ask for help.

The Knowledge Base is a wonderful thing.

Do you have a problem? Have you checked out Common Problems?

There are many very useful osC Contributions

Are you having trouble with a installed contribution? Have you checked out the support thread found Here

BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP!!! You did backup, right??

ok. do anyone have experience with paypall and 'how to

register' for europe?

You just go to the PayPal website and register for an account - and if you are based in Europe then your account is automatically dealt with by PayPal's european company.

i too am new to open source commerce. i have attempted to install osCommerce-2.2ms2 on my localhost apache2 server which i sucessfully installed with php and mysql components. these are all reported to be stable although not production versions of the software. i have read all installation guidelines in os knowledge base, readme files that are with the download and all recent installation info in this forum. i am unable to even get the 1st installation screen on my firefox browser for other instructions. it must be something really simple and i hate to belabour the point but i need help. thanks to all

The pathway to launch the install is http://localhost/catalog/install

You need first of all to have copied and pasted the complete 'catalog' folder into the root of your local server

Xitami= C:\Xitami\htdocs

XAMPP=C:\Apachefriends\xampp\htdocs

Other installations of the apache server may use 'html' or 'www' as the root directory.

hi - i know this might be a dumb question and answered previously, but I had a look through this branch of the forum and didn't see it (must be monday-itus hehe)

is there any specific guides for upgrading from one milestone to the next ie ms 1 to ms 2 etc? any tips or warning when doing it, I have a client who is using ms 1, and i am thinking of moving them to ms 2....

any info you guys can pass on would be good,

thanks in advance.

thanks much for a very quick reply. i tried the launch url you suggest and get FATAL ERROR message; register_globals is disabled in php.ini. i set register_globals = on yesterday and checked to be sure it is still set on.

i did copy and paste the complete catalog folder into the root of my local server, which in my case is C:/www/webroot. this was the resullt of my apache2 server installation and web setup. it includes mysql, phpMyAdmin, php, perl components which repeated test satisfactorily. i also tried pasting the catalog folder in C:/www/apache2/htdocs. this resulted in 404 errors, url not found on server.

my reply has become longer than intended, but in conclusion i will note that the knowledge base install instructions say the launch pathway with browser is http://localhost/osCommerce/ which also returned a 404 error. sorry for the long reply, i am anxious to try osCommerce-2.2ms2.

thanks in advance.
