Dashes in URL's

Dashes are accepted in URL's but is it a good idea? Has anyone done it in a domain name and had problems from it? Thx

If a dash is accepted as a valid domain name attribute, then your question really is one of personal opinion.

Dashes are valid DNS characters. The limitations for DNS names are not the same the limitations for path/file names. For example, the following URL is valid:

http://www.somedomain.com/search?something+interesting

 

But neither ? nor + are valid in the DNS name.
