Specials instead of New Products for...

I want to change the main 'New products for (month)' box shown on the homepage. not the side box, but the main one. I'd like to change it to 'specials' to show off special offers.

Is there a simple way to do this as it would be good to change it back if no specials we're available.

 

Another option would be to have featured products where i can select products from a list to appear in the main page.

 

Hope this makes sense as my eyes are drooping from viewing php files for hours.

got it.

tried it.

no luck.

 

the only thing i've chaged about it is the default.php is index.php , but still no luck i'm getting error msgs.

 

i followed the instructions that came with the download but just not working.

this was the contribution i used (the top of the list latest one)

 

specials on default

 

The error is not finding the filename on line 321ish on the index.php file in the catalog (oscommerce) folder.

 

any ideas? :(
