kahml Posted November 18, 2004 Posted November 18, 2004 Doing some more clean-up of the vernacular and ran across this one: 'Every member to our online shop that logs in is given a \'Members Cart\'. This allows the member to add products to their shopping cart, and come back at a later date to finalize their checkout. All products remain in their shopping cart until the member has checked them out, or removed the products themselves.')' If MemberA places the one and only copy of ProductX in their cart and saves it, is this item still available for anyone else to purchase? If not, does the product info contain anything to indicate that? If so, does the subsequent purchase by MemberB remove the item from MemberA's saved cart? (I still don't have everything hooked up sufficiently to test this...) Thanks! larry

Thanks! larry <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If I read this correctly, if you mark you products in the admin section as out of stock, they disappear from the catalog. When you set up stock levels in the admin, if a customer adds a product to their cart that then takes a product out of stock, this is indicated in the online shop. A new customer can still purchase the product and it would be despatched when they arrive in stock. Hope this makes sense.
jameso Posted November 19, 2004 Posted November 19, 2004 As far as I understand it, the stock quantity does not decrease until the buyer completes the checkout process. Simply adding an item to a cart does not decrease the stock quantity. I'm not 100% sure though, so I'll wait on someone else's confirmation.

But I can see that it could, ahem, annoy some people when they think they've locked something up and someone else makes off with the purchase. Larry
jameso Posted November 19, 2004 Posted November 19, 2004 Actually, what would happen if: visitor 1 has a product x saved in his cart. in the mean time visitor 2 comes and purchases the last product x. product x is then not shown in product listings, but will it be shown in visitor 1's saved cart when they return? If so, are they still able to purchase the product, even though there is none in stock? I'm not sure of this - I think I'll have to test it out a bit later on when I have time. Does anyone else know the answer to this?
