Hello

I would like to be able to list a bunch of products on a page and using standard hyperlinks be able to click the link that will add to the cart with product name and price. I have been using Mals e-commerce in the past and would like to move over to OScommerce.

Below is an example of what i'm talking about in case i'm not making any sense:

Any help would be great!

Step 1: Install osCommerce . . .

I'm not sure what else you're asking. Are you asking if osC can display lists of products on a page, and allow you to add them to a shopping cart? Doesn't shopping cart software have to do that by definition?

Hi Darren

I moved over from Mals about 15 months ago - still not sure what your question is, but trust me, this software is a hell of a lot better, and everything is in YOUR control! These forums offer great support, and your site looks a lot more professional as a result - I wouldn't hesitate - download and install today m8!

Please note - if I have suggested a contrib above, it doesnt mean it will work! Most of the contribs are not ones I've used, but may be useful for your particular problem....

Have you tried a refined search? Chances are your problem has already been dealt with elsewhere on the forums.....

Hi

I already have oscommerce installed and running, i want to be able to use hyperlinks to add to the cart without having to add the products into the sql database, here is an example:

product1 place order

product2 place order

just to clarify - you want to use the osc as a template for your site, but continue using mals ecommerce as your shopping cart? Seems a waste of such a powerful bit of kit as this, but is definitely possible. Just remember that by using a database you are able to make global changes much more easily, and by definition osc needs some sort of database to be able to function, even if you aren't using the shopping cart bit of the script. The other alternative is to search for contributions which allow one touch purchase to speed up checkout if that is the effect you want....

To put a fine point on it, I am still a bit confused what you want to do - basically mals ecommerce runs by allowing you to make a link which has all of the database information contained in the link itself so that it creates a page (the shopping basket) based on the information in the links. osCommerce creates a shopping basket based on a tiny portion of the link text which tells the basket to refer to a certain line within the database and then collects all the relevant information from the database - much quicker and easier to maintain.

I appreciate that setting up osc can seem a bit daunting with all the database work required to get things going, but honestly once you have a rudimentary databse working, it is so much easier and quicker to use and maintain than any other system i have come across so far! Try searching for EasyPopulate in the contributions section - this makes adding a swathe of new products to the database much easier, and I should imagine that somewhere you must have at least a simple database of your products if only for stock management - if not, try asking your suppliers - I know mine gave me a database of descriptions and dimensions along with product codes which gave me a great headstart!

Another contrib you may find useful is http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,2197 - this lets customers order in one click - works great for single item purchases, but kind of negates the need for any kind of shopping cart at all - be it mals or osc.

Hope this helps!
