pterodaktyl Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 Hi, I've searched through all the forums and can't find any previous mention of this issue... I recently set up an osCommerce installation selling software by download, using osCommerce 2.2 MS2 and Downloads Controller 5.3. Everything works fine, except that when a customer clicks on the link to download their file, they don't get the standard Internet Explorer "Do you want to save or open this file" dialog box. instead the download seems to run silently in the background until it is complete, then the customer is prompted to save or open the file. Since the largest file on sale is around 10MB, this means that a customer on 56k dial-up is going to be sitting there for half an hour with no indication that the download is progressing! Is this normal for osCommerce? And is there some way round it so that a prompt and a download progress box is diplayed? Thanks in advance :-) Tom
Guest Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 most likely by your default, you will not be able to process a 10mb file, unless your host has this enabled, which is very doubtful. also, the 'link' will never say open this file, it is an automatic for it to be downloaded to the customer system. your host most likely has it set at 2 mb. anyone on a 56k who is purchasing downloads only is going to be waiting a lot longer than an hour and a half . .. .
pterodaktyl Posted November 18, 2004 Author Posted November 18, 2004 Thanks for your help! most likely by your default, you will not be able to process a 10mb file, unless your host has this enabled, which is very doubtful. I don't think this is the problem, since the files do download in the end... plus I've been distributing these files for years under a simpler system. also, the 'link' will never say open this file, it is an automatic for it to be downloaded to the customer system. I've used other osCommerce based sites where it does prompt you to save or open when you first click the link... is there a way of setting this up? Cheers, Tom
