Inventory Management

Hi. I would like to start using osCommerce as soon as possible but i still have a few questions. I have a certain amount of physical inventory as my store which i plan to sell online. I, however, only want to sell what i have (I don't want to take backorders). Therefore, it is vital that my customers can see if an item is in stock or not. I don't want someone buying something that i no longer have. Is there something i can use the automaticly deducts inventory when an item is sold. This way, a customer can see in real time if i have a product or not. This system would not work if i had to manually adjust how much of something i had because i cannot be sitting in front of a computer all day. Any help regarding this would be great!

You would need t link your OSC to your POS/Inventory software package. There are a few basic contributiuons that attempt to do this. Most likely you will have to write a custom script to interface the two.

I guess Im still new to all of this, do i need a seperate software package to do all of this, or could i just download a contribution file and itstall it with OSC? If i needed seperate software, what would i be looking for, what would be the easier way to go about this?

You did not mention what package you are using so you will have to search the contributions and see if there is something already made to interface the two. If something is made typicaly it comes with install directions. If there is nothing you will have to write the code to link the 2 products. If you can't IM me and I can forward you a contact that should be able to do it opr at least tell you if it is possible.

I didn't know that i needed a seperate set of software. Is it possible for OSC to keep track of the amount of inventory i have if i just input the original amount of each product and then have it automaticly deduct when something is sold?
