Hope Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 I just signed up with this web hosting service and I'm planning to use OsCommerce. Before I go ahead and install it, please let me know: Should I first upload my products onto the web pages FIRST? Or should I go and install the shopping cart first? I'm asking b/c I don't know whether the OsC shopping cart must include the FULL product line? Will I need to upload the images in the shopping cart? Thanks so much for helping. :)
nvedia Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 Hi Hope You don';t need to upload the products first. You can go for install and then add products and you can upload images too

Hope Posted November 16, 2004 Author Posted November 16, 2004 Hi HopeYou don';t need to upload the products first. You can go for install and then add products and you can upload images too <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thank so much guys! This is such a helpful board. Please stay with me b/c I have another question: Now I've downloaded the software from this site. But my web hosting service says to click on the "OsCommerce" icon and - "click on an existing installation. The userinterface is what users see. The admin interface is where you can manage the cart. Click on html code. Then Select the code, right click on it, and choose Copy. Then Click the Web Builder link over to the left. Then Click the Edit Pages link under Web Builder. Then Click the Edit icon next to the page you want to insert the link to the cart. Then Choose the toggle HTML source button. Then Paste the code into the HTML source of the page and click the Save Changes button. Then Select the Publish option over to the left. On the publish page click on Publish Now. OR Do I just install it by clicking on the OsC file I just downloaded? Please, please elaborate. Again, much thanks to all.
Guest Posted November 16, 2004 Posted November 16, 2004 Hope, You asked this 2 days ago. The problem is that we don't know your hosting company. We don't know what they're instructions mean. We don't know what they're buttons do. When we create an osCommerce site, we download the osCommerce software from here. We modify the software with contributions and test it. Then we upload the software (including export local database and import into server database) onto the Internet site. Modify the configure.php files. We're done. It sounds like your web hosting company has osCommerce already available for you. If that's true, you didn't need to download it from here. I am making that assumption because of this: But my web hosting service says to click on the "OsCommerce" icon and - "click on an existing installation. What happens when you click on the osCommerce icon? Does it say that osCommerce is now ready on your web site? Does it give you pages asking for information like your store name, color choices, etc? ed

According to the instructions, I had to just copy an html link and paste it into the HTML sourse of my home page. All this did was create a link to the homepage of oscommerce. I don't understand how this is the shopping cart. I'm sorry about the instructions....I thought they would help. I really don't know where to go from here...

Actually, I had to click on Admin Interface and complete the info. Then I think I copy the html. So let me see how that works out, and I'll let you know. Thanks again :D
nvedia Posted November 16, 2004 Posted November 16, 2004 After you successfully install, uploading the products is very easy which can be done using admin
