Blackdragonfly Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 I clicked on the download the file and recived it ok (I think) but the issue is that the Install file has no file extention. I have no idea if that is what I'm looking for or not. I simply copied everything from the zip folder and I can't figure out what I'm doing. I swear I'm not an idiot and I think I will be fine once I get started. The only thing is that I'm using Firefox insted of IE or Netscape. Don't know if that makes a diffrence or not. Please help asap if you can!!! THank you!!!!!!!! Kate
Run.dll Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 so you've downloaded it, now you need to install it to a web server which must also have some database software, hosting servers useally come with MySQL these days, you have to pay for this hosting. You must upload all the files to the web server. Best to read the README file the first directory and follow the instructions, run a text editor like notepad or wordpad and then file the readme file and open it.

Otherwise osCommerce won't work. You need a webserver together with PHP and some database like MySQL. That a file has got no extention doesn't matter, you can still open it with notepad (if you are using windows). The INSTALL file is still a txt format file. oscommerce does not care about which browser you are using. Firefox is a good browser. Give a shout if you need some more help Regards Richard B)
bimbo Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 FireFox is a great browser. You won't have any trouble with it. You will still want to compare your cart's output on IE and probably Netscape and Opera as well. But don't worry about it for now. Check to see if your server already provides you with an osCommerce installer. I use Hostgator.com and they have several carts available. Otherwise, you need to extract the 'oscommerce-2.2ms2.tar.gz' file to your hard drive. Then, on your hosting server, create a sub-folder called '/oscart/' or something. Using FTP (I use FTPShell, it's free and good despite some bugs) you need to upload the files to that folder on your server. Then, in you browser, enter the URL to your cart, 'http://yourdomain.com/oscart/'. You should then see a welcome and install screen. That should get you started.
