Setting up my database

I have setup a database with the following:

 

database server: localhost <I am told by the hosting company>

Username: dclark1

password: <I created it when I setup the mysql database>

database name: commerce

 

I get the following error message when I use these values during the osCommerce setup:

 

"Access denied for user: 'dclark1@localhost' (Using password: YES)"

 

Any suggestions?

first off, recreate the user and password with different values, now that you have posted them here.

when you create the username, your host may precede the username with something, ie domain_ddark1 so you need to check with them on the proper way of doing it. this isnt an oscommerce error but a host/mysql problem.
