Guest Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 IMHO you get a better understanding of what is going on, if you install the packages individually. if you have problems with your live site, you can try duplicating it locally and then know what to talk with the host about.
Tjobbe Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 I use minixampp - a self installing php, mysql and everything package. not sure if it is still made free though, but I still have it if you want it. its very easy to use.
Guest Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 How do u run osc on a desktop? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The same as you run it on any other computer ! In my experience, OSC doesn't mind which computer you run it on. It's not fussy - you can put the computer on your desk, under your desk, in a rack.... anywhere. I wouldn't recommend leaving it outside - it might get rained on and then OSC might complain and the computer might go fizzzzzz, but other than that.... Rich.

Once you have Apache web server PHP mySQL phpmy admin, Do you install osc as per the instructions or is it different? Thanks Rolf
Guest Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 Do you install osc as per the instructions <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yep. I have found there are differences on a local pc to a normal server. Sending emails for one as my local server is not setup with SMTP or sendmail, but there may be ways round this. So long as the basic set-up is ok you can simulate and test most things.
