Guest Posted November 13, 2004 Posted November 13, 2004 I've never seen any Instructions for this software as I had my site installed by someone else. I don't understand anything that I've seen at the administration Panel, apart from adding goods and etc. Can someone tell me just HOW we alter the text at the top of the page (Index, for example). I just don't seem to be able to get 'In' there to do this Anyone help me here? Please :D Regards, David
Guest Posted November 13, 2004 Posted November 13, 2004 start reading thru the knowledge base. whomever installed for you should have also been contracted to show you how to use it. other than that, start reading everything. click on every item in the admin area and see what it says, as it will show you by doing so what each one does, wher you need to change things.

These things scare me silly and, all this talk of "backup before you do anything" doesn't exactly help a guy's confidence so .... Oooooh er .... Cheers, David
Guest Posted November 13, 2004 Posted November 13, 2004 OK, I've just read the bit that says: "The change for the generic text that is on the default osCommerce store's introduction and welcome is altered in the catalog/includes/languages/english/index.php file" So, I click the "catalog" link (In the Blue Admin panel, right?) and then what? ... where is this "Includes"? Will I EVER get this ?? Cheers, David
Guest Posted November 13, 2004 Posted November 13, 2004 you need to have a copy of the code on your local computer, then you browse to the location (catalog/includes/languages/englisn) and open index.php in a text editor, many have been discussed in the forum, search for editor and you will find a few mentioned, or search the internet for php editor. once you make the changes, ftp the file to your site. dont forget, anywhere you have an apostrophe you need a \ in front of it, ie What\'s New Here and not Whats New Here
Guest Posted November 13, 2004 Posted November 13, 2004 OK John, THANKS for that .... But, I'm sorry, I aint a clue what you are saying .... I don't know anything about coding, html or, and especially, FTP - ing. That's why I decided to do my 'store' this way and, get someone else to install and etc. but, I can't keep running to him, ALL the time and, I just thought it would be easier to just alter certain texts myself, having done it SOoooo easily in the 'Drag and Drop' web-builders I'm used to. I've found out that it aint that easy, in fact, it looks like these 'simple' things are gonna HAVE to be 'farmed out' 'cos it would seem to be beyond me :-( Cheers David
