quick find issues

hi

i'm new here. imy problem is that of the 3 drop-downs in quick find, the top is supposed to search category, then the second searches manufacturer, then the third lists the goods. my quick find displays manufacturer first and skips category altogether.

second question, where are the username and passwords held for the site to access the database. when they changed my password on the ftp server the databse could no longer refer to it. any idea where it is stored so i can change the site to address the new password when it is changed?
