Recommended Posts

pretty much everyday i get extended visits from 207.46.98.148. It goes through many but not all of my products and seems to go to the write reviews pages lots but never logs in and never actually writes a review, wish they would.

I normally log host/browser/os/etc and all that data comes back unknown.

When i do a whois lookup on that ip i get:

strange methinks. not sure whether is is someone cleverly pretending to be microsoft or do microsoft track all apple sales sites? If anyone else has noticed the same IP address trawling their site i would like to know about it

I ain't got time to bleed

This is the msn bot. Don't worry about it unless it starts to use up too much bandwidth. Just make sure that it does not create sessions by checking your spiders.txt file to see if msnbot is listed, and that you have 'Prevent Spider Sessions' set to 'true' in your osCommerce Control Panel, under Configuration --> Sessions

Toby,

MSNBot can eat up a lot of bandwidth. If you add products_review_info.php to your robots.txt file (and any other pages search engines don't really need) that will help. You sound pretty net savvy but just in case, the robots.txt contrib has a sample robots.txt file.

On the bright side, Microsoft just announced their search engine today and MSNBot is feeding it.
