Jerah Posted November 11, 2004 Posted November 11, 2004 Hi all, Finally, the website is ready for y'all to have a look. http://www.eurekamin.com.au Note that this is a LIVE STORE. Please do not make test orders. I can't take credit for the design, the site owner hired a graphic designer as part of his branding makeover. However, I can take credit for the implementation - getting the design to work with the code and making it all fit together. With some help from the osc community, of course. Please feel free to have a look. Constructive feedback appreciated.
Jerah Posted November 11, 2004 Author Posted November 11, 2004 Stock <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So how modified does a site have to be before the response is "stock"? A serious question, I'm interested to know.
Guest Posted November 11, 2004 Posted November 11, 2004 OK it's not stock Well done. Interesting implementation of osC. More blog than pics. Then again for the quantity of minitatures that are available na dtheir sizes it would mess up the design. ps Do you know that you've no prices in cPath=193_196_201. All these Napoleonic figures are $0.00 Just went to convert my Aus Dollar to "Euro Dollar" .... What is a euro dollar. Strange new currency that I haven't heard of :P Checkout Went to checkout my lovely free purchases with a profile to find out that my DOB is a required field. I'd consider making this an option if you want to gather user profiles. DOB should not be required. Also your missing an asterix on the telephone number as I assume that with this being a yellow box that it is required. Contact Us Your email addie is a bit too big and blue, also consider coding this in ascii to avoid spam. Gallery Clicked into your gallery to find the colour scheme and layout had changed completely. It looks well, however I'd consider asking your client to make to site uniform. FAQ This page contains both secure and nonsecure items Is this necessary on the FAQ ? I like the way you have the crumb trail in the main box. I might see how this looks in my own site, as I was curious as to where it could go. Custom Miniatures We ask you to provide your credit card details to show that you are serious in your intent. Charges to your card will only apply after you confirm your order with us ie. when we reach the required numberlooks a bit odd, i'd impliment the standard i.e. Well done to all involved. Regards PhilipH
Guest Posted November 11, 2004 Posted November 11, 2004 By the way you got to reply while I was typing the serious response. PhilipH
Jerah Posted November 11, 2004 Author Posted November 11, 2004 Interesting implementation of osC. More blog than pics. Then again for the quantity of minitatures that are available na dtheir sizes it would mess up the design. There's more pics coming, it's just a matter of time and webspace. There are several thousand individual products on the site so having a picture for each one takes up a lot of space. We actually do have a pic for every item, it's just a matter of making those pics web friendly (they're scanned for a print catalog). ps Do you know that you've no prices in cPath=193_196_201. All these Napoleonic figures are $0.00 That would be because they are actually custom miniatures not created yet. People "pre-order" them and once a certain number are ordered, they are manufactured. The fact that this concept is not understandable to the "layman's" eye means I need to do more work on making it so. I'm going to install the Category Description contrib so I can add a line at the top of each listing regarding that fact. That path is also wrong... just checking, it appears the links on the "Browse by scale" and "Browse by period" pages (accessed via the drop down navigation), which are hard coded, are pointing to the wrong places. I think this has happened because the database was cleaned out and then reloaded, with a couple of new categories and extra products, so has messed up the hard coded links. Time for some serious fixing! Just went to convert my Aus Dollar to "Euro Dollar" .... What is a euro dollar. Strange new currency that I haven't heard of :P Haha whoops! Got carried away with the word "Dollar". Shall be fixed presently, thanks for pointing that out. Went to checkout my lovely free purchases with a profile to find out that my DOB is a required field. I'd consider making this an option if you want to gather user profiles. DOB should not be required. Good suggestion. Since our content is hardly restricted to people over a certain age, we may remove the DOB completely. Also your missing an asterix on the telephone number as I assume that with this being a yellow box that it is required. It's supposedly NOT required, I followed the Tip on how to turn required off for it. I thought it was working as not required. Was it required when you tested it? Your email addie is a bit too big and blue, also consider coding this in ascii to avoid spam. Yes I will say I thought of both those points. They're two of those "round-tuit" things... :) Clicked into your gallery to find the colour scheme and layout had changed completely. It looks well, however I'd consider asking your client to make to site uniform. Yes, the gallery uses Coppermine which uses a completely different template system. I have to sit down and code a common template up. I know there is a contribution for it, I may look at that first. This page contains both secure and unsecure items Oooh... I personally hate this error. And when I look at the page, I don't get it! (I'm using Firefox btw) I shall have a look. I will bet the Thawte certificate logo is causing the problem. I recall on the previous version of the site we had the FAQ going through the secure server to remove that error. looks a bit odd, i'd impliment the standard i.e. Nice pickup, thanks. :) Thanks for your more detailed analysis. You've certainly picked up some stuff that needs fixing. :)
