need help with a stock/out of stock problem

I have a weird stock problem (inventory) going on.

Ideally, I would like to display items as out of stock, but still allow people to order them.

I know this is contrary to what most sites do, but the reason for this is that if I don't have something in stock, I can generally get it within 24 hours.

I have my set set to "check stock level" = false, "subtract stock = true", "allow checkout = true", and "mark product out of stock" = low stock.

When I get below the min quantity specified (I think 1), the item shows as out of stock on the product info page and it cannot be purchased. However, when browsing by category, they can hit the add to cart button and it goes in OK.

I don't recall if it's OK to post the URL of our sites here when posting problems, so I won't until told it's OK.

Thanks.

I could of course work around the problem by padding the inventory by 10 or so.

My goal is to enable orders to come in even if I am out of stock, but also to let customers know that there will be a delay.

I think the ideal would be to get somewhere like Amazon's system where it says "ships in 24 hrs, ships in 2-3 days, etc". Probably I would have to add a contri for stock status, I assume?

I just need to quickly correct the issue where orders cannot be placed for out of stock items, since I am losing business there.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi Dan,

One way would be alter your adim settings to ALLOW checkout if no stock, replace OOS and references to PRE-ORDER

Then install ad this contribution

- Product availability options

Have been looking at this myself for similar reasons.

It looks like the problem is related to the custom Master Products I had someone install. Fortunately I got another developer to work around the problem.

Thanks for the reply.
