Installation checksum error

Recommended Posts

I've just downloaded ms2.2 onto my Sun Ultra 5 workstation (the OS is Solaris 8) a couple of times, but I can't seem to get the file untarred. After gunzipping the file I execute the following command:

tar xvf oscommerce-2.2ms2.tar

and everything goes smoothly until I get this error:

tar: directory checksum error

I've downloaded the unix version of the file from both sites on the download page, and I've untarred each several times, and the error always appears after the following line:

x oscommerce-2.2ms2/catalog/admin/includes/languages/english/images/buttons/button_update.gif, 461 bytes, 1 tape blocks

(That's all one line, even if it wraps here.)

Any advice would be appreciated.

Just in case anyone else runs across this problem, I found a solution in the man page for tar: add the "i" option to "ignore directory checksum errors." I'd rather know why there was a problem in the first place, but this seems to have solved the immediate problem, and I've been able to install the store and get to the configuration page (after setting register_globals on).
