Solution to email delivery problems for Linux

Recommended Posts

If you are one of the very many folks who have been having mail bounced back from your php program (like osc) on a Linux box, for example:

Final-Recipient: rfc822; unknown

Action: failed

Status: 5.0.0

Diagnostic-Code: X-Postfix; No recipients specified

Try doing this:

Look through your php.ini file for this heading

; Module Settings ;

Somewhere just below that you will find this:

[mail function]

; For Win32 only.

; For Win32 only.

;sendmail_from =

; For Unix only. You may supply arguments as well (default: "sendmail -t -i").

sendmail_path = /usr/sbin/sendmail -t -i -f [email protected]

In the last line above you must add the path to sendmail 'on your machine' WITH the options, substituting your own address of course.

I have spent countless hours searching for the answer to this and finally found it. It has nothing to do with osc or any other other php program, it's a sendmail/postfix issue.

BTW, my box is SuSE 9.1.

That one simple line above can save sooo much hair pulling. I'm sure many will find it useful. Enjoy!
