Download Problems

Guest

Recommended Posts

I set up a file to download after purchase and instead I get a text file that says this:

<br />

<b>Fatal error</b>: Call to undefined function: symlink() in <b>C:\Accounts\bobricci\wwwRoot\store\download.php</b> on line <b>92</b><br />

anybody know what this means?

Could somebody please help me out with this? I don't know PHP that well at all. I understand this is trying to call a function that doesn't exist, but I didn't edit any of the files, so I'm not sure why it just doesn't work by default. Nobody else has had this problem?

You either must enable SymLinks, or get your hosting provider to do this. Im almost 99% sure that is your problem, you could also try turning off download redirects in your admin.

Thanks so much. You pinpointed the problem. I don't know what SymLinks is opposed to redirects though. Is there an advantage to having redirects turned or using SymLinks instead?

I sell only virtual downloadable goods and redirects never worked for me even though I have SymLinks enabled. I turned off redirects and everything works fine and no one can access their product unless osCommerce allows them to do so.

Thanks a lot. It's hard to find anybody that's actually successfully set up downloadable products. If you have any other words of wisdom or snags you may have run into with osCommerce it would be greatly appriciated :)

i have them working no problem, both free and paid for downloads

Yeah but you didn't answer my question :P Nah, I just meant that I didn't see much info on the forums about it. Lots of questions but not many answers. I was just happy to have finally gotten it all straightened out.

Yes,

I offer both free and downloadable products, Internet Explorer is trash and causes a lot of my headaches from customers. My products are PDF format and I try to encourage them to Open instead of Save As, which causes even MORE headaches. There are a lot of things like bundles for downloadable goods, and other contributions I would like to see but I'm still not familiar enough with PHP to accomplish it myself. Just post your questions here and Im sure someone will answer them.
