Hi Jonathan,

I'm trying to place a downloadable link that opens up a Windows Media Player. Can someone please advise on how to do this?

I'm probably totally wrong on this, but whether the audio/video file on the website is a .WAV or MPEG , or .RA, etc,etc , will determine what software is used on the client, by your browser. That is, your browser (client) determines what it does with file extensions.

The link would be something like:

<a href="http://example.com/soundfile.wav">Click here to play this file</a>

Are you trying to do this from product descriptions in order to play a sample or are you trying to use the download feature to open the player?

If it's the first - then what peter says... if its the latter - thats a whole other story...

Try .ASF or .WMV for video, wich provides stream capabilities as option while compressing the files. The compressor is downloadable via MS's website.

MP3 is possible too, for audio, but people with download managers wont view/ear the media inside the web (and MP3 is not natively a stream format)

You can include the media as an embed, and the explorer will do the rest.

Thanks for the response. The source where I'm getting the original streamed video states 'Left click to stream, right click to download to your computer.' Where exactly should I upload the file to?

The file where do you want. Just href it correctly.

(time ago, the stream content needed a special server, but today, any server will stream content, due the compressor and explorers capabilities)
