Hi everybody.

So I'm a newbie and have attached osCommerce to my website. It was provided as a download by my host. I think its gonna be fantastic!!

I have called the osCommerce directory 'eshop' and stored it in /MyWebSite/public_html/eshop.

OK,

The main page still says "This is a default setup of the osCommerce project, products shown are for demonstrational purposes etc etc etc..."

Is this not my shop? If it is my shop (which I think it is):

1. How do I change all that info

2. Brand the site as my website, cos it is currently osCommerce branded.

I don't know where to start. I know very little html and no php

I've got lots more to ask but will leave it here for now. I'm already starting to feel like I'm running before I can walk.

Thanks in advance.

on that page it points you to the exact page which needs to be changed for the text on there.

read the knowledge base.

that is a great beginning point.

edit all files locally with phpedit, some editor which has line numbers.

then ftp the changes to the site. make sure you keep a backup of the file in case it doesnt work, so you can figure out what went wrong.

Hi Mibble

Thanks for the speedy response.

When you say edit 'locally' what do you mean. Sorry for being thick but I'm slowly getting the lingo.

eshop is stored on my host server, should I also have a copy on my hard drive

'Locally' means on your own computer. Yes, you should have an up-to-date back-up copy of all of the files on your website, and the database. That way, if anything goes wrong you can reload the site from your back-up.

I understand. So how do I make the backup?

O dear what a disaster. Thought I would be clever and try and change the main page info, but, did it on the german language page incase I did it wrong. If I make a mistake it wont matter right!?! WRONG..

I can't access my shop. All I get is:

Parse error: parse error, unexpected '/' in /home/sites/paulbentleymusic.com/public_html/eshop/includes/languages/german/index.php on line 14

I can't open the english main page.

Don't you just hate newbies
