configure.php setup for Cookies

Recommended Posts

I'm still having problems with cookies, I'm slowly educating myself however, and have at least managed to find what might be at the root of my original problem ... so thanks so far.

I have read stacks of posts on this, and tried various different settings in configure.php, but I just need someone to check out my files and tell me what is what ... if you don't mind :thumbsup:

Here are the files (with a couple of questions to follow)

catalog configure.php:

define('HTTP_SERVER', 'http://www.m8auto-tec.co.uk'); // eg, http://localhost - should not be empty for productive servers
 define('HTTPS_SERVER', 'https://m8auto-tec.secure.assimilatedservers.net'); // eg, https://localhost - should not be empty for productive servers
 define('ENABLE_SSL', true); // secure webserver for checkout procedure?
 define('HTTP_COOKIE_DOMAIN', 'm8auto-tec.co.uk');
 define('HTTPS_COOKIE_DOMAIN', 'm8auto-tec.secure.assimilatedservers.net');
 define('HTTP_COOKIE_PATH', '/catalog/');
 define('HTTPS_COOKIE_PATH', '/catalog');
 define('DIR_WS_HTTP_CATALOG', '/catalog/');
 define('DIR_WS_HTTPS_CATALOG', '/catalog/');

And admin configure.php

define('HTTP_SERVER', 'https://m8auto-tec.secure.assimilatedservers.net'); // for the admin - hence HTTPS.
 define('HTTP_CATALOG_SERVER', 'http://www.m8auto-tec.co.uk');
 define('HTTPS_CATALOG_SERVER', 'https://m8auto-tec.secure.assimilatedservers.net');
 define('ENABLE_SSL_CATALOG', 'true'); // secure webserver for catalog module
 define('DIR_FS_DOCUMENT_ROOT', '/hsphere/local/home/m8autote/m8auto-tec.co.uk/catalog/'); // where the pages are located on the server
 define('DIR_WS_ADMIN', '/catalog/admin/'); // absolute path required
 define('DIR_FS_ADMIN', '/hsphere/local/home/m8autote/m8auto-tec.co.uk/catalog/admin/'); // absolute pate required
 define('DIR_WS_CATALOG', '/catalog/'); // absolute path required
 define('DIR_FS_CATALOG', '/hsphere/local/home/m8autote/m8auto-tec.co.uk/catalog/'); // absolute path required

Does the define ('HTTP_SERVER' have to be the same in both files?

I read in a post that the two (http & https) cookies communicate via a cache file that has to be updated for cookies to work on a shared SSL, any mileage in that?

Anything obviously wrong with these files?

Those files look fine to me. The HTTP_SERVER in admin is for how you want to access admin - you have it right.

The only thing that comes to mind, having tried your site, is that you have the mis-feature "Search Engine Friendly URLs" enabled. Try turning it off and see if that helps.

Hi Steve

I set Search Engine Friendly URLs to false, but wasn't able to navigate the site. The categories and the links on the front page just brought you back to the front page.

Is there anything else that might not be allowing cookies to work?

The problem I have been experiencing that lead to this post, has just become worse, so I have to find a way of forcing cookies so that the session IDs and therefore customer details dont get mixed up.
