Credit Card Processing Options

 I admit it. I am one step short of blowing a large hole in my skull. The seemingly "simple" task of finding someone to process my credit cards is mind numbing. I just figured out how ot make $1 million. I just need to offere a service that works, is reasonably priced, and is not dedicated to teh baffling of the customer.

1. PayPal - Yeah Right ... It looks REAL professional to direct people off my sight to double enter their personal information so they can use PayPal for credit Card. <_< . Someonee else got a way to help me here. Yeah I got PayPal button on and it works. But do you really want to send people to the PayPal sight to handle cards? I mean to me that looks cheesy. <_<

2. Merchant Accounts. For xx% plus $.xx per transaction fee with a $20 minimum charge per month someone will handle my card transactions. But then that is only if I re-key them in manually on their sight. Yep, that is going to make me happy. Going out and double entering things with all the human errors that will cause.

3. Gateways. Can someone tell me in ENglish just why Verisign wants $59 per month and $250 setup for a gateway? I mean what are they really doing for me. Shipping my transaction to someone else? Why is that worth $59 a month ontop of all the other things I have to deal with. If I cna ship the transactions to them then why not directly to the Merchant Account?

4. Combines Offerings. Seems to make the most sense and so far they "appear" to be cheaper, but what gives? Something had got to be wrong as they look "too" good to be true right now.

All that said, I see lots of attempts at explaining this peice meal. Someone that is working today and has a decent volume of sales (over $500 a month) and has a sight that does not look like an Ebay shop give us all a clue. What works, what makes sense, what will get me from point A to point B with minimal cash and hair removed.

Your response will be greatly appreciated.

There are a couple of things to consider. People do have PayPal accounts, and they are numerous to say the least. For PayPal account holders it is simply a matter of convenience to pay out of their accounts.

I looked for a long time, most of the solutions I found were simply too expensive for my situation. Which is why I settled on PayPal finally. But if the day arrived that I could offer another solution I would simply offer it as another choice as PayPal is not all that bad.

As for the baffled customer, not to much you can do about that. One might assume that using an interface is not the only thing that confuses them... to sum it up you can make it as simple as possible and they will find a way to break it.

Of course if you really are going to be making a million then Verisign is chump change really. Honestly my guess is stick to what is in the admin module. It will probably be less headaches in the long run...
