TheFinnisher Posted August 10, 2004 Posted August 10, 2004 Hello, I recently discovered that some of the sites we compete with get a higher listing with google because they have the particular keyword in their domain name or in the file name. Try this search for instance: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=...on+&btnG=Search The web site I have created is the crstires.com at: http://www.crstires.com/product_info.php?c...products_id=484 Now, I want to try to improve our already good listing by adding the word Pirelli and Tires into the url. I'm thinking of doing this by chaging the cPath name to "pirelli_tires" because that's what the site sells. I know I could change the cPath name and was curious as what this would do to people's bookmarks etc. Just for fun I tried to type in a different address (using the cPath name change) and to my surprise the product still came up? See example: http://www.crstires.com/product_info.php?p...products_id=484 (I have not changed the cPath name as of this posting date) So in some sense it may be safe for me to do the cPath change since people would still get to the product... What's the general opinion on Google giving better listing because the keywords excist in the domain and url? (considering of course that there are plenty of content in the page otherwise) Thanks for any thoughts. :)
TheFinnisher Posted August 11, 2004 Author Posted August 11, 2004 Anyone else interested in this topic?
TheFinnisher Posted August 25, 2004 Author Posted August 25, 2004 Ok, I decided to go with the changes in case anyone wonders... I changed cPath to Pirelli-Motorcycle-Tires See example: http://www.crstires.com/product_info.php?P...products_id=427 Since I realized that my hidden allprods.php (contribution Show All Products) also was heavily browsed by different search engines I changed the name (as in cPath) to the same Pirelli-Motorcycle-Tires. :) Hope this helps someone else!
