clarocque Posted August 10, 2004 Posted August 10, 2004 Hello, I have searched the forums and found some interesting reading but not really an answer. I have several clients who use OSC and until recently I have had them on shared servers. Recently we decided to get a dedicated server for just our clients. Most (95%+) use OSC for a site. Well now as I learn dedicated servers I am baffled by the old persistant connection or not issue. I was hoping someone who had some knowledge of servers could help me. Should I allow persistant connections? Should I enable them for my osc clients? If yes what should I limit it to and what time duration? What are the benifets? Is OSC faster and/or more stable using them? Are PC better or worse for serve load? And is there example of numbers - maybe say a site using 1000 items w/ 2000 visitors a day. and 100 to 200 accounts on the server - or is that to much etc... The server is: Dual Xeon 2.4 GHz w/ HT 1 GB Ram Dual Drives w/ RAID 1 100Mbps Uplink and good network (at a major datacenter) Bandwidth should be no problem as it is 1500GB/mo Any advise or suggestions whould be greatly appreciated. Chris osC Contributions I have published. Note: Some I only provided minor changes, updates or additions!
