Guest Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 Hi - sorry to ask such a dumb question, but a client has asked what the maximum number of products that Oscommerce could support? Can you help???
♥yesudo Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 how many do they have ? Your online success is Paramount.
mondi Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but I don't beleive there is any limit per say. It is going to depend on MySQL and the server you are running's capability to keep up. I have seen osc stores with well over 3000 products that ran pretty smooth. Mysql is pretty solid, I have other types of databases running on it with 100's of thousands of records. Mondi
Guest Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 Thank you very much for responding. I had a feeling this would be the case and thank you for your time.
burt Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 Is 2.9 million enough ? I have a client with around that figure.
Guest Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 Yesudo - it's currently still on paper, but I believe it's low hundreds.
♥yesudo Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 I think Mondi and Burt's input will probably answer your question. Your online success is Paramount.
MikeJandreaudotCom Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 I've set up a store successfully with 3747 products, with no problems. It really depends on the size of your MySQL database. I figured with that many products, the search features would run slower on this site, but they run fine. www.collectorscabin.net What's your TopFive? -
digi Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 I have a internal test server here running at the office with almost 6 million products in it, note that the server is on a -dual xeon processor 3.0ghz -2 gig ram. -10,000 rpm drive. I can honestly say that the shop runs as fast as if I had 20 products in it. digi *Outlined in chalk everone looks the same* Currently useing OSC 2.2 MS1 running on Apache/1.3.27 (Unix) (Red-Hat/Linux) mod_jk/1.2.0 mod_perl/1.26 PHP/4.3.3 FrontPage/5.0.2 mod_ssl/2.8.12 OpenSSL/0.9.6b
RojanUK Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 Is 2.9 million enough ? I have a client with around that figure. Crikey! 2.9 million products? How long did that take to program? RojanUK

RojanUK Posted August 10, 2004 Posted August 10, 2004 Crikey! 2.9 million products? How long did that take to program? its called "import and export" *grin* I understand that, but at some stage in the lifespan of those products somebody had to put them in the computer in order to 'import/export' I'd imagine. Seems like a tough job to do. My products count in hundreds and that's taking a long time to get setup, so I can only image... RojanUK
barefoot_boo Posted August 12, 2004 Posted August 12, 2004 On a similar note, how would I go about limiting the number of products allowed in a store? thanks in advance boo

Most people with that many products have access to CVS files or somesort from there suppliers, we have 9 different suppliers totaling over 6 million products, and we can easily update our entire database in a matter of 3 hours or less. we are even in the process of having multiple read connect strings to each of our suppliers databases's so that our database gets updated "live" with our suppliers database. (meaning we never have to input products or doing updates.) digi *Outlined in chalk everone looks the same* Currently useing OSC 2.2 MS1 running on Apache/1.3.27 (Unix) (Red-Hat/Linux) mod_jk/1.2.0 mod_perl/1.26 PHP/4.3.3 FrontPage/5.0.2 mod_ssl/2.8.12 OpenSSL/0.9.6b
Guest Posted August 12, 2004 Posted August 12, 2004 So, how do you import a cvs database? Exists a database model?
djinn2004 Posted August 23, 2004 Posted August 23, 2004 May I step in and ask another question... I am running into problems (totalling >10000 products) where one of the 'new product' queries begins to wine about setting an option SQL_BIG_RESULT=1. Since I cannot change any options for mySQL (I must use the webbased interface, have no command-line version available), how I am to put this into the tep_db_query() function or ... where...??? Any help is appreciated! Thanks, ; :(
