How do you use contributions?

Hi!

 

I'm SUCH a newbie. LOL. I couldn't even figure out how to install oscommerce by myself. :o My host gave me the option of installing it for me, so I have oscommerce installed but now I want to use a couple of the contributions. I've read the instructions in each contribution but what I don't understand is WHERE I upload the files to. Do I log into admin in the shopping cart and add files there? Is it something I do on my computer?

 

I really need to use a shopping cart and just can't afford to go out and buy one at this point in my business. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Each contribution can be different. Some have just documentation or instructions on what files to edit. Some are complete replacement files for standard php files.

 

Normally, the contribution will tell you which folder/file you need to replace/edit.

 

One way is to create a working folder on your site that you can unzip the contribution to, and then after "backing" up your existing file(s) that will be edited/replaced just copy the contribution files or edit according to the instructions.

 

If you run into a problem with a contribution, just post a question in the contributions forum and get some assistance.
