Hi,

I'm trying to install oscommerce but i have some troubles ...

I launched the install page, then if i check for the installation with the database import it freezes nd that's all :-( I only have the Oscommerce logo on the top right and on the left i have "new installation

Database import " and the page is blank. If i skip the database import and create it manually, iobtain this message : "New Installation OsCommerce Configuration" and again a blank page ....

Can someone explain me how to install properly osCommerce ?

Cheers,

i am having the same troubles. i traced my troubles to the install_2.php file. it is stalling when trying to connect to the mysql server. i have not had any success fixing this yet though.

This thread may help you. http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=89561

But too many people get all stressed out about the installer. osC is quite easy to set up manually as long as you have access to or can install phpMyAdmin. Many servers have this installed already.

The installer only does three things:

1) imports the sample db info into your database

2) sets values in catalog/includes/configure.php

2) sets values in catalog/admin/includes/configure.php

That's it! If you know the answers to the questions the installer asks you can set the config files yourself.

Local: Mac OS X 10.5.8 - Apache 2.2/php 5.3.0/MySQL 5.4.10 • Web Servers: Linux

Tools: BBEdit, Coda, Versions (Subversion), Sequel Pro (db management)

thanks for the hint regarding phpmyadmin. i installed it as a debian package and restarted apache, apache-perl, and apache-ssl. i was able to get much farther. i can see that the oscommerce database is created. the oscommerce utility does go as far as warning me that the /var/www/oscommerce/catalog/admin/confugiration.php and /var/www/oscommerce/catalog/admin/includes/configure.php files either do not exist or the permissions are not correctly set. i tried to set the permissions to rwx for all (chmod 777) but this did not work. i touched the files too but this did not work. i took a stab at editing the files and setting the parameters manually. i really do not know what to set them to ... the oscommerce utility still won't let me get past this page.

any suggestions?
