Iggy Posted August 8, 2004 Posted August 8, 2004 Hi There, I've been tweeking an osCommerce install with a bunch of mods and have them all working and now I'd like to never do it again :) I could just tar up the files and export the db and do that whenever I want this particular hacked together install but my curiosity is peeked by the loaded installs. What's the best way to move this into the stock osCommerce installer? I've tried exporting the the db and replacing it in the stock install but no go. Any ideas? Here's what I have playing nicely together so far... *** Authorizenet Consolidated v17_1_2 *** *** drop-down-button-in-shoppincart *** *** STS-2_01 (Simple Template System) *** *** Separate_Pricing_Per_Customer_v3.5_1 (Wholesale/Retail pricing) *** *** admin_account_1_2 *** *** Header Tags Controller v2.3.2 *** *** categories_description_MS2_1.6 *** *** 3_Sizes_of_product_images_Update_for_22ms2_v1.10 *** *** option_type_feature_v1.6 *** Thanks Iggy Everything's funny but nothing's a joke...
Iggy Posted August 8, 2004 Author Posted August 8, 2004 Uhhh, make that *** Authorizenet Consolidated v17_1_2 *** *** drop-down-button-in-shoppincart *** *** STS-2_01 (Simple Template System) *** *** PWA_0.80 (Pay w/o Account) *** *** Separate_Pricing_Per_Customer_v3.5_1 (Wholesale/Retail pricing) *** *** admin_account_1_2 *** *** Header Tags Controller v2.3.2 *** *** categories_description_MS2_1.6 *** *** 3_Sizes_of_product_images_Update_for_22ms2_v1.10 *** *** option_type_feature_v1.6 *** Which is why I'd rather not build this up from scratch again Thanks! user99999999 Posted August 8, 2004 Posted August 8, 2004 You dont need the install. Just copy the directory, edit the config files, and import the db.
Iggy Posted August 8, 2004 Author Posted August 8, 2004 Yup, got that. But how do the guys who make loaded installations do it? Everything's funny but nothing's a joke...
ozcsys Posted August 8, 2004 Posted August 8, 2004 Yup, got that. But how do the guys who make loaded installations do it? If you are using all your changed files you should just be able to replace the sql in the install folder with a backup of your site with all the changes. The Knowledge Base is a wonderful thing. Do you have a problem? Have you checked out Common Problems? There are many very useful osC Contributions Are you having trouble with a installed contribution? Have you checked out the support thread found Here BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP!!! You did backup, right??
AlanR Posted August 8, 2004 Posted August 8, 2004 Yup, got that. But how do the guys who make loaded installations do it? All the installer does is import the db, then set the two config files. So by replacing the demo db with your's you've got an installer. Seems kind of unnecessary though since you clearly know enough to set the config files without the installer. Local: Mac OS X 10.5.8 - Apache 2.2/php 5.3.0/MySQL 5.4.10 • Web Servers: Linux Tools: BBEdit, Coda, Versions (Subversion), Sequel Pro (db management)
Guest Posted August 8, 2004 Posted August 8, 2004 The only reason you would want to keep the installer would be for distribution of the osc to others, as AlanR sais if you know enough edit the config manually and do it faster. Because you use the sts contrib a manual edit is required to the config anyways once the installer is complete, unless you would like to re-write the install package and include the sts code required, forget a 100% auto install. I have package a loaded as you call it, which has over 40 contribs installed & my clients still demand more features than I have installed. All I do is backup the whole dir of the site and backup the sql, replacing the stock osc sql done. This is what my new stock/loaded osc site looks like now after lots of adding and redesign: http://www.supaosc.com/supasites/lazylizards/ I have stripped all none required stuff from sql and store, as this site is almost 6mb now and growing. I hope this helps.
Iggy Posted August 9, 2004 Author Posted August 9, 2004 I can't seem to find a loaded install that has sts and the other mods I need pre-installed so I thought I'd make one and let folks have it. Likely the reason is because of the config file (I know I'm not going to do it :P ) I think the hassle with the db is I just exported it from phpMyAdmin and not from the command line so some switch is thrown or unthrown. Have to experiment a bit. Thanks for all the replies! Iggy Everything's funny but nothing's a joke...
Iggy Posted August 9, 2004 Author Posted August 9, 2004 Urg. Can't get back in and edit my last post so... Nice site BTW :D Iggy Everything's funny but nothing's a joke...
Guest Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 Iggy I use sts with all my sites and export sql always through phpadmin and I have no issues, it should work fine, I might have a bash at the install never actualy crossed my mind before to edit to install, to allow sts addition to the config file auto. I got used to editing the config manually. Thx about the site, not really that happy about it, but I have done a new one which is fully loaded and trimmed, I will need to play a little with the featured boxes and new_products boxes to include a few extra tweaks. http://www.supaosc.com/supasites/lazylizard/
Iggy Posted August 9, 2004 Author Posted August 9, 2004 This is my first foray into sts as a client needed multiple templates. It looks like I can't figure out why I was using BTS at all when STS was around. Still have a little ways to go to complete the job. First thing was just to get those mods to play nice and as STS seems on first blush to kick BTS behind for ease of use and install I was thinking I'd kick that back to the community. If you get it working I'm sure it would be a popular destination as I was using loaded installs till my needs veered off their track and I had to work up one of my own. Does that link work BTW? Or is it just me? Thanks! Iggy Everything's funny but nothing's a joke...
