Anders Posted August 7, 2004 Posted August 7, 2004 Hi, I used Fantastico at my webhost to install osCommerce. When trying to edit the text on the homepage I opened english/index.php but it appeared I didn't have the correct user permissions. This is the error message: Error: I can not write to this file. Please set the right user permissions on: /home/iktpeda/public_html/butiken//includes/languages/english/index.php On my webbserver they are set to 755, as they should. As you can see there are two slashes "//" between "butiken" and "includes etc". I get the feeling I am being redirected to the osCommerce homesite, where I quite correctly shouldn't have such user permission. Maybe my guess is wrong. What to do? Anders

There's most likely an error in the configure.php file but don't use the built in editor, there's lots of known problems with it. Edit locally, then upload or use some other editor which will edit via ftp. Does the site work OK otherwise? (and no, it's not trying to edit the osC site's demo store) Local: Mac OS X 10.5.8 - Apache 2.2/php 5.3.0/MySQL 5.4.10 • Web Servers: Linux Tools: BBEdit, Coda, Versions (Subversion), Sequel Pro (db management)
alyshia Posted August 7, 2004 Posted August 7, 2004 I thought permissions (at least for the images) had to be set to: 777
Anders Posted August 8, 2004 Author Posted August 8, 2004 Hi alyshia and AlanR, Thanks for good advice. You were both right (about permissions and about downloading files to a real php-editor). This problem was solved and I could move on to the next adventure. Cheers, Anders :D
