lost outgoing emails when using Japanese

I am working on my first OSC site, which is in Japanese. I am using English as well to build, but will drop it when the site is finished for a Japanese-only store. I am using the Japanese language pack from the Contributions page with OSC 2.2 MS2.

 

I do not know php/programming, but between my experience with html, actionscript (basic familiarity) and Miva Merchant, I've been able to solve issues and satisfy my customization needs with liberal use of the help forums, contributions and Wiki docs.

 

One bone is sticking in my craw, though. Some outgoing smtp emails sent in Japanese language mode are disappearing into the cyber-ether.

 

Testing with Hotmail (English version), Yahoo (English version) and Outlook shows that those emails going to Hotmail consistently go "poof!" and are not heard from again. Those going to Yahoo and Outlook are okay (the Outlook mail box uses the same shared server and hosting package as the website but with a different parked domain).

 

I'm using the default EUC encoding for the site. Doing test orders in English works every time. But the test order confirmation emails crap out going to Hotmail when Japanese is used. However, the website does succesfully send out the new order notice email in Japanese.

 

I've tested with both plain text and html (currently using plain) with the same results. I have also tested once to Japanese Hotmail. The email was received but the contents included the names of the content pieces, rather than the actual values/text.

 

Any ideas on what's happening or how to fix this?

 

My launch deadline is in ten days, so any help would be fantastic.

Well...

 

I must have been hallucinating last night. Testing today shows that the Japanese emails only work with Yahoo.

 

Hotmail and Outlook don't receive the emails.

 

Any ideas, folks?

I fixed the problem. Changing the email subject to English seems to have solved the issues I asked about.

 

It's nice when the answers are simple!

Hello, I want to install Japanese language to my OS Commerce site too, but when I install the contribution of the language pack for MS1 on my MS2, it doesn't seem to work, it just gives me a blank page with no errors when I tried to access the catalog. Can you tell me what you did to install the language correctly?
