iainshaw Posted August 6, 2004 Posted August 6, 2004 I've been asked to look at a site that requires the ability to show "collections" or "seasons". It's for a dress designer who needs very distinctive looks for each collection of dresses she produces. Since she won't be taking orders on the site it will be more of a gallery anyway. So I have 2 questions: 1) How might I achieve this using osC? 2) Am I trying to make osCdo something for which it's not best suited? 1) My initial thoughts were about using CSS but I don't see how I could do this as the core .php files in /catalog all get their formatting from stylesheet.css and I don't see how stylesheet.css could change depending on what it is displaying. In the same way I don't see how I could add many different classes for each collection as the dresses would be displayed in product_info.php I could use custom pages for each collection, but then I've moved away from using categories haven't I? - that's not a rhetorical question, I'd love to know I could still use categories in some way. 2) Am I trying to use the wrong tool for the job? I've invested a fair amount of time in working with osC and have learned to be be able to do a lot with it. The client needs a dynamic rather than static site but I wonder if I shouldn't just look for another solution. There's someone on here with a signature abut if you only have a hammer you see every problem as a nail.........that's what I'm worried about :D
