Inventory and Pricing

Hey All,

 

i really need your suggessions, we are starting a online store & we are selling products offline too, so how do i keep track of the inventory and pricing

 

By inventory i mean the quantity of each products, is there a contribution where i can update the quantity on real-time or at the end of the day.

 

secondly how do i update the total purchase made offline & online, so i can generate the report.

Very good questions, and ones I want to ask as well.

 

Does anyone know of a good way to integrate osCommerce with a full fledged inventory/accounting package, along the lines of say...

 

Quckbooks

Peachtree

MAS90

RetailPro

Etc.,

 

osCommerce seems like it can handle things well enough within it's own limited view of the operation, but there is much more going on in regards to accounting, offline sales, purchasing and aquisition of inventory. It seems that it would be rather time-consuming to manually update quantities in osCommerce whenever something happens outside of it, say in Quickbooks for example (a purchase order received), or in an offline Retail Setting. And likewise, it would be just as bad having to update your inventory quantities, etc., in your main accounting package (Quickbooks for example) for all the transactions done in osCommerce.

 

Being ODBC, I'm sure osCommerce could be made to work well with other ODBC business management packages... perhaps?

 

Does anyone have any solutions?

I have similar difficulty, I want to update the product pricing on the website quickly, maybe by some script or program. At the moment, it is a nightmare to update our weekly pricing update. We have upto 7000 different items. Anyone know at better way? Pls help. :huh:

About creating a wholesale section, i found a contribution called Seperate Price Per Customer, its very good, in that you create a group called wholesale and the customers who come under that group gets a different pricing, that solves the issue of inventory and pricing,

 

secondly the second issue about updating more pricing , i can understand your concern when you have 7000 products, im worried abt 300productsLOL so what i found was another contribution called Easy Populate, which imports the pricing and quantity and then it can altered in EXcel, and update back.. looks good havnt worked on it yet.

I have a Point of Sale site that does live sales. Customers can purchase online, or the store administrator can make a sale from the admin. It keeps track of all sales and produces detailed accounting reports. You can veiw the frontend at dvdmoviestogo.com.

This topic that you speak of is one that has plagued the IT community for years ;)

 

Could you all provide more information regarding the systems you are running offline? OS, DB, Applications ?

 

Similar to what you are looking at accomplishing, I have an offline Progress DB running on AIX that I use automatic FTP processes to update a MS Access application. Of course there are alternatives to this, such as implementing Progress's ODBC drivers, but the amount of resources involved would be extreme, and frankly, I haven't had the time to look into it.

 

If you are looking at accomodating a pricing matrix for 7,000 products, then I would say that it would be worth your time looking into something like that. I myself am looking at 16,000 products that we sell offline.

 

I will be looking at the mySQL ODBC connector to solve my problem.

 

I would recommend that we create a user group and pool our resources in this, any takers? I will see if I can get a Data Access/Manipulation topic started in the forum.

Hello everyone... been reading for a while here...figured I would share somethings I found too.

 

ODBC is definately the way to go...as I just discovered myself.

 

Makes easy access to all products and prices...

 

 

I went to www.mysql.com and downloaded the ODBC driver v3.51

 

Installed it AND configured a connection in the ODBC Data Source section of my server. (XP has that too) and configured the connection as it's set in the config file of oscommerce.

 

THEN... once that was done, I opened the database in Microsoft Access. I used Microsoft Access 2003 for this...and it worked.

I apologize in advance if missed some other post that may have suggested this, but what about having the employees who take phone orders also order via Oscommerce. You could make minor modifications so that the employees can place orders without going through all the hassels the customers.

You can also download the contribution that allows the admin to make order, so all offline orders you make, can be done thru the system at the time, or after. it allows you to keep track of orders made, thru the order system, takes care of the inventory and also the stats.
